Proponents of public education expressed their dissatisfaction with Constitutional Amendment 2, commonly referred to as the School Choice Amendment, which is scheduled to be on the ballot in Kentucky in November.
A rally to vote “no” was conducted on Tuesday morning in Louisville at Teamsters 783 on Beulah Church Road.
The General Assembly would be able to give state support to pupils who attend private schools if Amendment 2 were to pass. This might apply to homeschooling as well as private and charter institutions.
If the vote is “no,” the state’s financing for public schools will remain in place.
The event’s organisers claim that a “yes” vote would have a detrimental effect on communities throughout Kentucky.
Director of the Centre of Justice & Policy Initiatives Felicia Nu’Man stated, “Politicians in Frankfort want to loot public schools and offer a select few students a voucher to go to private schools, instead of making our public schools better for all of our kids.” It is not the place of the government to declare winners and losers. All of our kids ought to be getting started to excellent starts with our assistance.
They contend that the accountability standards applied to public schools are not applied to private schools.
Although many individuals support Amendment 2, saying that it provides parents greater choice over their child’s education, this group opposes it.
