The i’s Mark Douglas provided an update on links to Olympiacos player Santiago Hezze, as well as the most recent information on Kieran Trippier’s future and our pursuit of Marc Guehi, following strong links yesterday.
According to him, iNews has received information from sources in Greece indicating that Newcastle is interested in signing Hezze. The 22-year-old would cost the club approximately £18 million. Eddie Howe was looking to sign more “project players” who could quickly establish themselves as first-team stars, similar to Hall, Osula, and Livramento.
The holding midfielder, who played for Olympiacos last season and helped them win the Europa League before representing Argentina in the Olympics, is an intriguing connection.
Regarding Kieran Trippier, Douglas discloses that the uneasy 33-year-old is not enthusiastic about going to Saudi Arabia because he worries it would harm his chances of winning an England cap under the new interim manager, Lee Carsley, and that Jordan Henderson’s reputation will suffer as a result of Trippier’s departure.
He is eager to depart before the deadline next week, and Everton is showing interest. However, as I understand it, Newcastle is unlikely to approve a loan move to Goodison Park, which may be our last opportunity to secure a respectable fee.
Last but not least, Douglas says that Newcastle thinks Marc Guehi’s situation at Crystal Palace is now “open” to a settlement. The 24-year-old is eager to get a transfer to St. James’ Park, where he knows that personal terms won’t be an issue.
