Latest News: Yankees option young infielder for what could be a huge boost

After the New York Yankees’ victory over the Cleveland Guardians this past afternoon, Oswald Peraza was optioned. Although this is terrible news for the 24-year-old infielder, it is a sign of some fantastic news. Jazz Chisholm may be activated as the Yankees begin a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies tomorrow, since he is eligible to come off the injured list. Chisholm was their largest deal when he was acquired from the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline. With his explosive speed and strong bat, Chisholm delivered a tremendous punch.

Jazz Chisholm might be one of several names the Yankees bring back from the IL in the upcoming weeks, as they have an opportunity to possibly gain some distance in the AL East with a more straightforward portion of their schedule approaching.

Oswald Peraza is sent down by the Yankees; this might activate Jazz Chisholm

Playing against left-handed pitchers, Oswald Peraza was a weak-side platoon infielder who had good experience in the major leagues. With a.773 OPS and 114 wRC+ in his four starts, he hit his fourth Major League home run of the season and had some excellent plays at third base. After it was revealed that Jazz Chisholm’s UCL injury would not require surgery, it became evident that his time with the squad would be brief. He also stated that he did not experiencing any pain during some batting practice yesterday.

It’s a bittersweet moment for Oswald Peraza, who will hopefully return to Scranton with some confidence after proving he can play in the infield for a team. However, the big story will be who the Yankees choose to replace him. Before going on the disabled list, Jazz Chisholm had a 194 wRC+ with the Yankees. Given how awful DJ LeMahieu has been for this team this season, they are eager to have their regular third baseman back in the lineup.

The Yankees won two straight games to win the series and vault themselves back into first place following a crushing defeat to the Guardians on Tuesday to begin their homestand. It appears that the Yankees and Orioles will battle it out for the AL East in the final stretch, but if the Yankees can get some injured players back into the lineup before October, they may have a chance to gain some momentum.

Lou Trivino, Anthony Rizzo, Cody Poteet, Ian Hamilton, and Clarke Schmidt will all be in Somerset this weekend for rehabilitation, which will provide the Yankees with some pitching and infield assistance. Although their bullpen and rotation have improved recently, they will still need their pitching staff to be extremely reliable in order to sustain an offence that leads the league in both team OPS and runs scored.
