JUST IN: The top 7 female US Open champions are As Follows…..

In the Open Era, there have been 28 different women’s singles winners at the US Open, and the record for the most victories is shared by two players.

Serena Williams and Chris Evert have each won six US Open championships; Steffi Graf is the only other female winner with five victories.

Here, we examine the seven athletes who have won three or more women’s singles US Open championships during the Open Era.

Margaret Court won three of her five Open Era championships at the New York Grand Slam after winning the US Open in 1962 and 1965.

The well-known Australian defeated Nancy Richey in 1969, Rosemary Casals in 1970, and Eve Goolagong in 1973 to claim her final victories.

5. Three Billie Jean King

Billie Jean King won her first US Open championship in 1967, and she went on to win three more titles in her home major during the Open Era.

The American icon defeated Casals in 1971, Kerry Melville in 1972, and Goolagong in 1974 in her final victories of the Open Era.

5. Three Kim Clijsters

From 2003 to 2010, Kim Clijsters made it to four championship matches at Flushing Meadows, where she won three US Open titles.

The Belgian star overcame Vera Zvonareva in 2010, Mary Pierce in 2005, and Caroline Wozniacki in 2009 in her triumphant title bouts.

4. The fourth Martina Navratilova

From 1981 to 1991, Martina Navratilova competed in eight US Open finals and won four of them.

The legendary Czech-American defeated Steffi Graf in 1987, Helena Sukova in 1986, and Chris Evert in 1983 and 1984 to win her titles.

3. Steffi Graf, who is five

In the eight US Open title matches that Graf competed in between 1987 and 1996, she won five of them.

The German legend defeated Gabriela Sabatini in 1988, Navratilova in 1989, Sukova in 1993, and Monica Seles in 1995 and 1996 to win her title match triumphs.

Over a 20-year stretch from 1999 to 2019, Serena Williams reached nine finals at her home Grand Slam and won six of them.

Martina Hingis in 1999, Venus Williams in 2002, Jelena Jankovic in 2008, Victoria Azarenka in 2012 and 2013, and Caroline Wozniacki in 2014 were among the champions Williams defeated in her triumphant bouts.

1. Chris Evert, who is six

After winning six of the nine championship matches she participated in between 1975 and 1984, Evert became the first woman in the Open Era to win more than three US Open titles.

In 1975 and 1976, Wendy Turnbull in 1977, Pam Shriver in 1978, Hana Mandlikova in 1980 and 1982, and Goolagong in 1975 and 1976 were Evert’s final victories.
