Breaking News: Just now, 7 former Lakers just resigned after 2 months of free agency due to…

The top staff of the Los Angeles Lakers appears to have decided to run it back for another season, making them one of the more irritating teams of the offseason. The team declined to engage in any significant trade or free agency transactions. Not everyone is as excited about some offseason action as Laker supporters are, though.

Many free agents are still waiting for their next NBA contract to come in the mail, including a few former Lakers. As the new NBA season draws near, let’s take a look at some well-known personalities that are currently unemployed.

Recall how the Lakers rendered a teenage Talen Horton-Tucker impervious to trade talks? The front office saw the 6’4 guard as one of their most valuable assets. After a few more years, Horton-Tucker faces the possibility of leaving the league.

Horton-Tucker appears to possess the physical attributes and skill set necessary to be a competitive player. He can make plays, has an outstanding wingspan, strong positional size, and defensive potential. In addition to his strong passing vision and excellent ability to finish in traffic, he is a skilled ball handler.

The 23-year-old played with Utah for the last two seasons. Horton-Tucker hasn’t advanced, even though the Jazz offered him many chances and studio space to see what he could achieve. He made a career-low 43.8% of his two-point tries and 39.6% of his field goal attempts, indicating a severe decline in his efficiency on the field. Those are horrible figures for a player who is also a poor three-point shooter.

Being a perimeter player who is incapable of shooting or scoring makes it very hard to have an effect. At this point, Horton-Tucker lacks the other abilities necessary to create that kind of effect. Although he is still young and may have time to pursue a career, he could need to spend a few seasons trying his luck abroad before returning to the NBA.
