After victories on Thursday and Friday, the Cleveland Guardians began their four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles.
They appeared to have a good chance of sweeping one of the top teams in the MLB and American League.
The O’s, on the other hand, rallied and won both Saturday and Sunday to split the series.
Corbin Burnes, the AL Cy Young candidate, was hit hard by the Guardians, who scored five runs in five frames (four earned).
The reason Cleveland lost this game, 9–5, was because their pitchers were unable to stop one of baseball’s most potent offenses.
The Minnesota Twins swept the Chicago White Sox, extending their losing run to 20 games, cutting Cleveland’s advantage in the AL Central to just 4.5 games.
With eight hits (!) and two walks in four innings, Gavin Williams let up six runs in one of his worst performances of the year.
While he did strike out eight Orioles on Sunday, he was very hittable.
