The Edmonton Oilers are hoping to start the 2024–25 season well and contend for their first Stanley Cup since 1990. After a season in which they were just one victory away from returning to Canada with a championship, they strengthened their roster even further during the summer,

making them appear to be the team to beat going into the upcoming campaign. The Oilers have added Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson to their roster, but they are also concentrating on extending top forward Leon Draisaitl, who is expected to sign a contract soon rather than later.

Unfortunately, they will soon have to decide what to do with their newest breakthrough defensive superstar, Evan Bouchard, and his impending extension. Bouchard’s expectations for his next contract may be directly impacted by the news that Brock Faber has extended with the Minnesota Wild.

Following his rookie season, Faber, 21, inked an eight-year agreement with the Wild on Monday, July 29. The deal has a total value of $68 million, with an average annual value (AAV) of $8.5 million. He participated in all 82 games during the previous campaign, averaging 0.57 points per game with eight goals and 39 assists. Additionally, he came in second place in the Calder Trophy voting, which goes to the NHL’s Rookie of the Year.
