The Rockets have made it clear that they want to return to the postseason. They finished No. 11 in the Western Conference with a 41-41 record the previous season, after a win-now strategy that included the acquisition of players like Dillon Brooks and Fred VanVleet.
There could be a jump next season behind a young, developing core that has a ton of All-Star potential, but will it be sufficient to get Houston into the postseason next year?
The Rockets could certainly grow into a young team and hope to contend again, or they could make a smart deal that would get them into the playoffs early the following year and continue to build from there. They can recruit role players and prepare for the potential arrival of a superstar rather than throwing everything at the prospect of a star player today.
