According to Fabrizio Romano, Wolves and Burnley have begun negotiations on the signing of defender Maxime Esteve.
Captain Gary O’Neil’s team lost Max Kilman, the team’s captain, left earlier in the summer to sign a £40 million move to join West Ham United and former manager Julen Lopetegui. Gary O’Neil’s team is currently searching the market for a replacement.
However, Romano notes that there is fierce rivalry to sign the 22-year-old center back this summer, with a “open race” prevailing at the moment.
O’Neil is now low on choices in the center of defense after losing Kilman to injury, and Frenchman Esteve has become a target.
Esteve is “one to watch,” according to Romano, as a number of unidentified Premier League teams are considering a move for the Burnley defender to expand their possibilities.
Thus far this summer, Wolves has acquired permanent signings Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima, Tommy Doyle, and Jorgen Strand Larsen on loan from Spanish team Celta Vigo. Daniel Podence, Fabio Silva, and center-back Yerson Mosquera are among the first team players who are making a comeback after spending last season on loan elsewhere.
Despite not being able to stop the Clarets from being demoted to the Championship, Esteve was a regular for the team in 2023–24, making 16 appearances after signing in January.
