Postseason schedule revealed; World Series start date negotiable
In addition to a month of games aired on six networks, the 2024 MLB postseason will have a wrinkle for the beginning of the World Series for the first time.
All things considered, the postseason is slated to begin on Tuesday, October 1, with the Wild Card Series, and end on Saturday, November 2, with a possible Game 7 of the World Series.
The 2024 World Series is slated to start on October 25 at the residence of the league champion with the superior record, and it will go on until Saturday, November 2, perhaps including a Game 7. Sunday, October 27, and Thursday, October 31, are the designated off-days.
For the first time, though, there’s a big disclaimer: if both the American League and National League Championship Series conclude by October 19 (i.e., if neither series extends past five games as of right now), the World Series will start on Tuesday, October 22, with a possible Game 7 on Wednesday, October 30.
The World Series off-days in that case would be Thursday, October 24, and Monday, October 28.
What is the number of postseason rounds?
The best-of-three Wild Card Series, best-of-five Division Series, best-of-seven League Championship Series, and best-of-seven World Series are the four postseason formats.
