The Owls striker transfer would be “loved” by Sheffield Wednesday neighbors, but no call has been placed.
The manager of Rotherham United, Steve Evans, has expressed his appreciation for Michael Smith, the striker for Sheffield Wednesday, but he also says it is doubtful that the forward will return to New York.
The powerful attacker participated in Friday’s friendly run-out against Werder Bremen on Wednesday and is now one of the team’s few choices for an out-and-out striker. After leading the Owls to victory in the 2022–2023 League One promotion campaign, he had a significant cameo role in the latter half of the previous season.
As the Millers aim to avoid Championship relegation at the first attempt, Evans has supervised an eventful transfer window thus far, bringing in a plethora of new faces, including previously departed Owls Cameron Dawson and Reece James. It was reported that Smith signed a three-year contract and departed Rotherham for Hillsborough in the summer of 2022.
Although the Millers owner expressed his “love” to see Smith back in a Rotherham shirt, he shot off any chance of the Geordie target man ever coming back.
He told The Rotherham Advertiser, our sister publication, “I love Smudge.” “It’s true that he was outstanding for Rotherham United? When he played against my teams, he was a real handful.
