Another player on the “cold seat” is someone who is very likely to stick with their team since they are meeting the needs of the franchise. For the second consecutive season, the Dallas Stars have advanced to the Western Conference final.

HOT SEAT FOR STARS: LW JAMIE BENN With a $9.5 million season cap charge, Benn, 35, is the second-highest paid player in Dallas. He will soon begin the last season of his eight-year, $76 million deal.
From 33 goals and 78 points in 82 games during the 2022–23 NHL season to 21 goals and 60 points in 82 games this past season, Benn’s offensive output declined in 2023–24. Dallas’ other forwards have been excellent, so that productivity decline didn’t stand out as much. However, if his deal is extended, Benn will have to accept a wage decrease.
