Cubs and White Sox Persist in Being a Letdown Both on and Off the Field
As has been the case for some time, both Chicago teams were let down by the MLB trade deadline. The White Sox for getting so little in return for their trades, and the Cubs for doing so little. Now, let’s talk about the Cubs.
It’s too little, too late for the Cubs.
In exchange for third baseman Isaac Paredes, the Cubs sent prospects Christopher Morel and to the Rays. Reliever Mark Leiter Jr. was then traded to the Yankees by them. In exchange, the Cubs got two prospects. Ben Cowles, an infielder, and relief pitcher Jack Neely are those players.
As I already stated, I have no issues with the trade of Morel and, conversely, I have no issues with Leiter Jr.’s return. Jack Neely, who uses a fastball-slider combination, has been performing satisfactorily in AAA. Standing at 6’8″, he exudes a commanding presence on the mound, bordering on force.
Ben Cowles is a right-handed batter who can play all three infield positions. As a hitter, he has demonstrated some pop and respectable strike zone discipline. This season in AA level, Cowles has a.848 OPS, nine home runs, and a.295 average. A Miles Mastrobuoni improvement is what I’m hoping for.
