To make room for a pitcher before the deadline, the Dodgers trade him to the Tigers.
The Dodgers have made a trade, but it’s not the transaction you were expecting. Right now, Jack Flaherty, Tarik Skubal, and Garrett Crochety are still in the AL Central, but a LA pitcher is moving that way. The Dodgers sent reliever Ricky Vanasco to the Tigers in exchange for — wait for it — cash considerations, obviously trying to clear out room on the roster for any upcoming signings.
Although it wasn’t one of the Dodgers-Tigers transactions that we’re still hoping to see happen in the coming days, it might be a sign of things to come.
If so, it’s about time. Fans have been impatiently waiting to see how this team wants to correct itself before the postseason, as LA has appeared satisfied to stay out of the trade deadline season thus far.
Ricky Vanasco is traded by the Dodgers to the Tigers in exchange for cash.
On July 24, the Dodgers DFA’d Vanasco. Strangely, he let up three singles and three earned runs in his second and final appearance for the Los Angeles Angels against the Tigers prior to the All-Star break, failing to record a single out before being relieved. Perhaps there was something there that the Tigers could recover.
