This season, Cleveland has been one of baseball’s greatest success stories, uniting around rookie manager Stephen Vogt to establish themselves as an AL powerhouse.
They trailed only the 65-40 Philadelphia Phillies in the standings going into play on Monday, with a 63-42 record that led the American League and was good for second place overall in baseball.

The Cleveland Guardians could use some improvement in other areas before the postseason, even if it has been reported that they are in the market for pitchers before the approaching trade deadline.

And on Monday night, the Guardians took the first step in meeting one of these supplementary needs by concentrating on right field and acquiring outfielder Lane Thomas from the Washington Nationals.

LHP Alex Clemmey, the eighth-ranked prospect for the Guardians in our rankings, is the main attraction on Thomas’s return to the nation’s capital. Clemmey will be acquired by the Nationals together with José Tena, a 19-year-old shortstop prospect, and Rafael Ramirez Jr., the 11th-ranked prospect from Cleveland.
