Alex Cora of the Red Sox explains the deal for DFA Reese McGuire, a catcher.
Boston — After obtaining catcher Danny Jansen from the Blue Jays on Saturday in exchange for three prospects, the Red Sox designated backup catcher Reese McGuire for assignment on Sunday.
When asked about Boston’s decision to trade for Jansen and let go of McGuire, manager Alex Cora responded, “I think it’s more about the roster actually than the position.”
After a three-run 10th inning, Gleyber Torres hit a two-run double, and Aaron Judge reached base six times, a career-high 37 times. On Saturday night, the New York Yankees overcame a late deficit to defeat the Boston Red Sox 11–8.
This season’s highest number of tie games in the top leagues was five. Boston pulled ahead at 5-4, 6-5, and 8-6, after New York had led 3-0 and 4-3.
After hitting a home run the previous night, Judge now leads the league in home runs scored. With his 10th game of four hits, he tied his career high with four RBIs.
