Patriots and former Michigan Heisman finalist agree to an extension
Jabrill Peppers, a former Michigan standout, is making money off of what was maybe his best NFL season.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the 28-year-old safety has reached an agreement with the New England Patriots to extend his contract for three years, with a base value of $24 million. It may be valued as much as $30 million.
During the first week of training camp, on Friday, before the team’s practice, New England head coach Jerod Mayo announced the extension.
Mayo told reporters, “I am very happy for Peppers and his family as well as for our team and the organization.” He truly is the embodiment of all we desire in a player. It’s good to close the deal because he is very selfless and constantly on the move.
The Cleveland Browns’ 2017 first-round choice and 2016 Heisman Trophy winner became the center of attention for the Patriots’ defense in 2023, starting all 15 of his games and accounting for a career-high 96% of defensive snaps.
In all, Peppers recorded 78 tackles, a career-high two interceptions, eight pass breakups, and a sack.
Peppers’ versatility is one of his best qualities, just like it was while he was at Michigan. As per Pro Football Focus, he was assigned 424 snaps at free safety, 267 snaps in the box, 134 snaps in the slot, 80 snaps as a perimeter corner, and an additional 50 snaps along the defensive line.
