The Maple Leafs’ trade pitch results in a $95 million haul in Vegas.
The legendary winger Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs has been linked to trades and rumors that would transfer him out of the Canadian metropolis for years.
The Maple Leafs find a trading partner in Vegas in a recent PuckGM suggested deal that was filed by a PuckPedia user. The Golden Knights assist Toronto in offloading the forward, who is set to begin the last season of his seven-year contract. (The overall duration and value of the contracts are indicated in the figures below.)
William Karlsson ($47.2 million, eight years)
Ivan Barbashev ($25 million, five years)
Zach Whitecloud ($16.5 million, six years)
Nicolas Hage (six.9 million, three years) Golden Knights Receive:
Robertson Nicholas
Liljegren, Timothy
Mitchell Marner
This user centered his idea around Leafs’ Marner and Golden Knights’ William Karlsson, omitting the frequently mentioned Shea Theodore.
In addition to Karlsson, who in 2019 inked a massive eight-year, $47.2 contract with Vegas, Ivan Barbashev was also acquired by the Golden Knights. In June 2023, Barbashev inked a $25 million, five-year contract with Vegas.
In exchange for signing Vegas free agent Timothy Liljegren and unsigned restricted free agent Nicholas Robertson, who both appeared (and still do) to be outsiders before the free agent market opened on July 1, the Maple Leafs would make up for the addition of Barbashev, Whitecloud, and Hage.
