A Guardians reporter suggests trading for a young Angels starter.
The Cleveland Guardians find themselves in an odd situation as the MLB trade deadline approaches on July 30.
With a roster that is prepared to compete right now but has serious weaknesses, especially in the offense and rotation, they lead their division.
Although they have a very strong farm system, many of their prospects are either playing a position that may soon become needed or are currently contributing at the Major League level.
Because of this, the Guardians may not be as willing to trade their prospects as teams like the Baltimore Orioles or some of the more aggressive clubs like the Los Angeles Dodgers or Seattle Mariners.
Cleveland is unlikely to acquire the ace they require before the deadline due to this plus the likelihood that the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers, respectively, will not trade Tarik Skubal or Garrett Crochet.
But they’ll have to think outside the box and focus on young, gifted pitchers who have unrealized potential.
The name was given by Guardians writer @JL_baseball on Twitter, and because he is currently in Triple-A, it would make sense for the correct price.
The market for Reid Detmers is one to keep an eye on. Given the likelihood of Crochet and Skubal being relocated, Detmers could be the most accessible and reliable starter. He just needs a few adjustments to reach his full potential again. + That artwork is fresh because LAA hasn’t sold in a while,” he wrote.
