Mark Robins sets out ‘aspirations’ as Coventry City step up pre-season
Coventry City pre-season news from CoventryLive as Mark Robins looks ahead to the weekend’s test against German opposition as the Sky Blues ramp up their warm-up schedule
Mark Robins has set out Coventry City’s “aspirations” for the season ahead, hoping that this weekend’s test against German outfit SV Darmstadt 98 will further prepare his players for a successful Championship campaign.
The Sky Blues boss wants a promotion push and insists a tough pre-season will help prepare the players for what lies ahead in 2024/25. The club fell short of making the play-offs last time around after a sluggish start and end to the season, having got to the final and narrowly missed out on the Premier League by losing in a penalty shootout the year before when also forced to play catch-up after a poor opening couple of months.
But Robins intends to hit the ground running this time and believes the secret lies in the preparation, specifically playing against tougher opponents. City have stepped up the level of opposition in this summer’s pre-season, having already played out a goalless draw with Spanish top flight side Getafe in between comfortable wins against League Two Port Vale and League One Stevenage. Next up is a side that competed in the Bundesliga last season before Robins’ men entertain Premier league Everton at the CBS Arena on Tuesday night (July 30) and Bundesliga side Werder Bremen Saturday week (Aug 3), before concluding their warm-up schedule against Serie A side AS Roma behind closed doors (Aug 6).
