FOXBORO, Mass. —During the offseason, New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez got to fulfill a life long dream of his.
The second-year player bought his family of six a house in Texas around the area he grew up.
Gonzalez posted on Instagram last week a video of him surprising his family. In the caption he mentioned that he told his parents at five years old that he was going to buy them a home. Now as a NFL player with the Patriots, the 23-year-old got to make his promise with a home in Texas.
“It was amazing,” Gonzalez told reporters Thursday about gifting his family a home. “It was kind of surreal. I’m still processing, but it was just such a crazy feeling, amazing feeling. To be able to see their smiles on their faces was something I’ve always wanted.”
The house includes a backyard with a pool, high ceilings and a brick facade that shocked his family.
Gonzalez is one of four siblings, and the only brother of the house with three sisters. His two older sisters, Melissa and Samantha, excelled in NCAA Division 1 track and field. Melissa even represented Columbia in international track and field events, showing the athleticism of the family.
“They were very excited,” Gonzalez said. “Some happy tears, but I mean, it was fun. It was real fun.”
Training camp marks his second season with the Patriots and hopefully his first fully healthy season. Gonzalez suffered a season ending torn labrum against the Cowboys in 2023, ending his rookie season at four games.
