New arrival point for visitors of Wrexham World Heritage Site green lit
Plans to redevelop land to create a new arrival point for visitors to a World Heritage Site in Wrexham have been given the green light.
The application site concerns Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and World Heritage Site.
Permission has been secured for the arrival point as well as the provision of parking areas, extensive landscaping, pathways, drainage infrastructure and fences.
The site is part of the a larger area of land formerly occupied by Flexys, which is largely derelict and comprises areas of hard surfacing, as well as areas covered by vegetation.
Part of the site is already in use as a visitor parking area, providing 46 spaces for cars and three spaces for coaches.
Wrexham Council’s planning committee approved the plans at a recent meeting.
“The proposed development also presents a significant opportunity to restore previously developed land to enhance its overall appearance and to support the delivery of the aims and objectives of the Trevor Basis Masterplan,” an officer’s report considered by the committee said.
