Coventry City fans have been excited by the arrival of five new permanent signings so far this summer but many are still eagerly awaiting news on more.
There are obvious gaps in the squad, not least up front where it’s fair to assume manager Mark Robins will be keen to add a replacement for Matty Godden, whose move to Charlton Athletic leaves the Sky Blues with two big centre-forwards in Ellis Simms and Haji Wright, and the versatile Fabio Tavares who has largely been deployed wide right in a forward three.
Belgian goalscorer Mitchy Ntelo was linked with the club last month, and the 23-year-old’s name cropped up again this week on social media when Bulgarian football writer Metodi Shumanov claimed on X: “Bulgarian top-flight side Lokomotiv Plovdiv are on the verge of selling their star striker Mitchy Ntelo to Coventry FC for a fee that’s believed to be around €1.2m (£1m).”
Meanwhile, the fact that City were widely reported in the Serbian and New Zealand press to have been in for Marko Stamenic last month, eventually losing out to Nottingham Forest who sent the 22-year-old New Zealand international out on loan to Olympiacos, suggests Coventry are also in the market for a holding midfielder.
