After a bit of a stoppage on the transaction table, the Philadelphia 76ers were reported to have agreed to terms with veteran guard Reggie Jackson on a one-year deal shortly after getting waived by the Hornets.
The 34-year-old Jackson spent last season as the Denver Nuggets’ resident sixth man, averaging 10.2 points and 3.8 assists for the then-defending champions. Now, he joins another title contender with a reasonable shot to land a considerable role.
4 Philadelphia 76ers who will benefit the most from Reggie Jackson signing
While Jackson cannot be banked on to log big numbers as he used to in the past, he showed that he still has something left in the tank in the previous campaign.
Alas, here are four players on the 76ers roster who will benefit the most from having him aboard.
4. Kelly Oubre Jr.
Some depth charts have Kelly Oubre Jr. penciled in as a starter for the 76ers next season, but bringing him off the bench would allow them to fully maximize his skill set as a score-first wing and unclog the starting lineup already littered with scoring talent between Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George.
Having Jackson as a second-unit operator (independent of Kyle Lowry) would give Oubre another defense-sapping sidekick who can set him up as a cutter or a drive-and-kick trigger man. That way, he will only need to focus on finishing plays, which is his best trait.
