Coveted striker heading to Stoke City in pre-season in Championship-wide transfer blow
Republic of Ireland striker had been in the crosshairs of clubs in the Championship this summer window
A pen is being drawn through the name of Troy Parrott on Championship clubs’ transfer wish lists up and down the country.
The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland striker has been monitored by every second tier club over the last four years as he tried to make his breakthrough at Tottenham Hotspur. There have been loans at Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons and Preston North End before easily the most successful, last season, at Excelsior.
But as managers and scouts sniffed out his availability this summer, he is on his way back to the Netherlands. He has flown over for a medical with AZ Alkmaar ahead of what is expected to be a deal for about £6.7 million.
That will see him join up with former Stoke City defender Bruno Martins Indi and he will line up against the Potters in the final friendly of pre-season at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday,
football.london report: “The fact that Parrott scored freely for a struggling side (Excelsior), either side of a quad injury which kept him out for six weeks from March into April, did not go unnoticed by teams at the top of the Eredivisie, as well as clubs in Italy and back home in the Championship in England.
