Slater, 31, is leaving San Francisco for the first time in his eight-year MLB career. He has a batting average of .200 with one home run and nine RBIs in 43 games this season.

Despite recent injuries including elbow surgery last October and hamstring strains, Slater has been a dependable pinch-hitter.

According to Reds general manager Brad Meador, the trade was beneficial for both teams.

Although Hinds missed hitting a single to complete the cycle on Tuesday, he achieved a historic feat by becoming the first player ever to get five extra-base hits in his first two major league games.

“I didn’t know that,” Hinds said about his record. “But I knew I was doing some pretty cool stuff. I try not to pay too much attention to the statistics.”

Tyler Stephenson and Spencer Steer also hit home runs for the Reds, who won their second consecutive game against the Rockies.
