The Cavaliers and Evan Mobley have talked contract extension, and we can expect an agreement before the end of summer. That’s pretty much a given.
But what about Isaac Okoro? Well, that’s a little more dicey. Okoro is a restricted free agent and this could drag on until training camp in late September. The possibility of a sign-and-trade certainly exists. The reality is, Okoro may not be back.
I joined Dave Bacon for my regular spot on Sports 4 CLE to discuss Mobley, Okoro and all things Cavs. You can check it all out by topic in the videos below.
Now, granted the above trade proposal is a hypothetical, which I always hope fans realize. Goodness knows, we run tons of them on Hoops Wire. But only because a). they’re fun and b). they’re incredibly well-received. They create dialogue. And nobody loves talking hoops more than us.
Anyway, as for Atkinson and the core four, I think it’s worth a shot to see how things go with a new coach and new system. It probably doesn’t hurt to see if Darius Garland can return to the point guard he once was. Yes, he’s coming off a down season. But he was also an All-Star a few back.
Last thing you want to do is trade the guy and have him rediscover his game somewhere else. The Cavaliers, it seems, don’t have any plans to do that at the moment.
