Christian Yelich and Blake Perkins both hit home runs, collected three hits, and drove in three runs each as the Milwaukee Brewers Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers Dodgers 9-2 on Sunday. This victory ended the Brewers’ seven-game losing streak at Dodger Stadium.
Eric Haase contributed with a two-run homer in the fifth inning for the Brewers, who managed to avoid being swept in the weekend series between the top teams in the National League divisions. Milwaukee is one of only three teams in the MLB this season that hasn’t had a losing streak of four games or more.
“Brewers manager Pat Murphy praised Yelich and Perkins for their standout performances: ‘Yelich came through when we needed him, and Perkins was outstanding. Our guys put in a great effort,’” said Murphy.
Yelich opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the fourth inning against Dodgers’ rookie starter Justin Wrobleski (0-1). It was Yelich’s second consecutive game hitting a home run to center field. He also added an RBI double in the ninth inning.
Yelich, who will start as one of the NL’s outfielders in the All-Star Game on July 16, had a strong road trip batting .393 (11 for 28) with three home runs and five RBIs. When asked about his stats, Yelich replied, “I don’t keep track of my numbers. The home runs are probably the only ones I know. I don’t check because they change so much during the season. I just focus on contributing to wins.”
