Crystal Palace and not Tottenham showing interest in signing – Eagles move gaining strength

Not so long ago it was reported Marcus Edwards wasn’t so keen on a transfer to Crystal Palace, despite interest from the Eagles.

The 25-year-old Sporting player was thought to be looking for something a little more enticing, with a return to Tottenham repeatedly pushed forward as a possibility.

However, Tottenham don’t appear to be rushing forward to use their clause which will help a buyback, and Wednesday’s edition of Record makes it clear that it’s Crystal Palace who have shown the most recent interest.

Edwards left Spurs in 2019, with Tottenham retaining 50% of a future transfer fee. He then moved to Sporting in 2022, and rather than the Lisbon club having to pay up extra to cover the Spurs percentage, it was agreed that the clause could roll over.
Therefore, when Sporting sold Edwards, Tottenham would still get 50%. As part of the Pedro Porro move, Spurs agreed for that to go down to 35%.

So, as it stands, if Sporting were to sell Edwards for, say, €20m then €7m would be due.

There doesn’t appear to be any effort from Ange Postecoglou’s side to get him themselves, and as the summer grows older then Crystal Palace surely has to become more attractive.

Last season the right winger made 44 appearances for Sporting, although few of those were for the full match, scoring six goals and contributing nine assists.
