Wolves plotting move for Sunderland star
Wolverhampton Wanderers have been keeping a close eye on Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson after taking an interest in him, as per a report from Give Me Sport.
Patterson has been one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Black Cats in recent years, managing to fend off other shot-stoppers to secure a regular starting spot at the Stadium of Light.
He initially took over from Lee Burge to become the club’s number-one stopper during the latter stages of their time in League One – and was trusted by Alex Neil and his successor Tony Mowbray to be the club’s first-choice keeper in the Championship following their promotion.
Alex Bass was signed, but he was unable to win much game time during his time on Wearside and Patterson was also able to keep Nathan Bishop out of the starting lineup during the 2023/24 campaign.
Bishop has now been loaned out to Wycombe Wanderers to win more game time, whilst Patterson remains at the SoL as one of the Black Cats’ most important players.
The goalkeeper is one of many Black Cats players who could attract interest in the coming weeks, with Jack Clarke likely to be wanted by several teams following an excellent 2023/24 season and Jobe Bellingham enjoying an excellent first campaign on Wearside.
Others, including Trai Hume and Pierre Ekwah, have also shown promise in recent years and could attract big fees, with both still in the early stages of their respective careers.
