Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich confirmed the signing of Crystal Palace ace Michael Olise, formerly of Reading, on Sunday afternoon.
According to Sky Sports, Bayern paid £50.8m for the 22-year-old’s services, and while Palace have collected a handsome fee for the midfielder, his departure comes as the first real setback to Oliver Glasner’s impressive reign at Selhurst Park.
The former Frankfurt boss has instilled a stellar, free-flowing brand of football to the Eagles, who finished in an impressive 10th place in the Premier League table following Glasner’s arrival in South London back in February, but in order to maintain this momentum, the Austrian must now seek an Olise replacement this summer.
Back in May, BBC Sport revealed that the Eagles were interested in Norwich City star Gabriel Sara, and his signature may be more of a need than a want for the Selhurst Park outfit following Olise’s exit.
Now that the France youth international has left the Eagles, Glasner and co will surely be more keen than ever before to pursue a deal for Sara, which spells bad news for the Canaries.
Olise’s departure to Bayern has given the Eagles a fresh injection of funds, which should allow the Selhurst Park side to freely pursue Sara, who they had already been linked with.
Since joining Palace from Reading in the summer of 2021, Olise has been nothing short of sensational, and he produced a stunning return of 10 goals and six assists in 19 Premier League outings last campaign.
