According to L’Équipe, Crystal Palace have recalled Jean-Philppe Mateta (27) from Thierry Henry’s France squad for the Olympics to undergo medical tests in London. The French forward is now set to miss Les Bleus’ upcoming preparation match against the Dominican Republic set to take place on Thursday in Toulon.
Luckily for the France U21 boss, the former Lyon striker shall return to France on Friday and his participation in the Olympics will not be in doubt. Palace want the 27-year-old to take part in some routine medical tests as part of their preseason preparations under Oliver Glasner.
Mateta was the leading light for France in their opening warmup match ahead of the Olympics. The Crystal Palace forward scored a brace in a 4-1 victory against Paraguay. The Premier League outfit will be hoping Mateta is able to stay injury-free during the competition after proving himself to be their most reliable goalscorer last term.
Crystal Palace could now finally sign a player who has been linked with a move to SE25 for years.
There was already money for Dougie Freedman to spend this summer, although the £55m sale of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich has provided more funds for the Glaswegian to play with.
