Ben Tozer makes honest admission about Wrexham future after being released by club
Wrexham secured back-to-back promotions in the 2023/24 to reach the third tier of English football but their former captain believes they may need to experience some “adversity”
Former Wrexham captain Ben Tozer has confessed his desire to see the club face some adversity this season.
Wrexham, who have climbed two divisions to reach League One in the 2023/24 season, have been on a remarkable rise since Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took ownership in 2020. The influx of investment and fame has transformed Wrexham from a non-league side to a League One team in just a few years, with aspirations for further promotions in sight, as reported by the Mirror.
Tozer, speaking on Ben Foster’s podcast ‘Fozcast’, discussed the club’s prospects under its celebrity owners and expressed his wish for Wrexham to experience both ups and downs during the current campaign. During the podcast, co-host Tom Ochoa questioned Tozer about Wrexham’s chances for the next season, asking: “What do you think next season for Wrexham? Do you think there’s a genuine possibility of promotion?”
To which Tozer responded: “I don’t know, I think it could be possible. Yeah, there’s so many ifs and buts.” He then acknowledged that while he hopes for their success, immediate promotion might not be in the club’s best interest, suggesting instead that Wrexham should focus on stabilising their current position.
