Confirmed: Fee emerges as ‘exemplary’ Coventry City professional completes move to Charlton Athletic
Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Matty Godden completes his move to League One Charlton Athletic
Coventry City have officially confirmed that Matty Godden has been sold to Charlton Athletic, bringing an end to five years at the club – a period in which manager Mark Robins says the striker made a “significant contribution” to the club’s rise up the leagues.
The 32-year-old passed his medical and agreed personal terms with the League One Addicks earlier this week and today signed a two year deal at The Valley, with an option for a third year. The Sky Blues paid Peterborough United around £750,000 for the player in 2019.
He moves for an ‘undisclosed’ fee, understood to be a relatively modest figure that could rise to a maximum of £400,000 based on the usual add-ons, including appearances and promotion.
Confirming the move, a City statement said: “The Sky Blues would like to place on record its thanks and appreciation to Matty for his service to the club since joining in 2019 from Peterborough United. Matty has been an exemplary professional both on and off the pitch and everyone at Coventry City wishes him the best of luck for the future.”
