Everton, Leicester City and Southampton have all opened talks to sign Espanyol striker Martin Braithwaite, according to Tipsbladet.
The Danish news outlet reported on 2 July that the Denmark international is a man in demand after an “absolutely terrific” campaign which saw him winning the Golden Boot, scoring 22 goals in La Liga 2.
The Spanish side also want to keep the 33-year-old and are looking to offer him a new contract.
Everton must avoid signing Martin Branthwaite
The fact that he’s 33 means he is approaching the twilight of his career.
While he had an impressive season in La Liga 2, scoring 22 goals, it is uncertain whether he can replicate this form in the Premier League, especially at his age.
Everton would be taking a significant risk by signing a player who may struggle to adapt to the demands of the English top flight.
The Danish striker’s age also means that he is unlikely to have a long-term impact at Goodison Park.
The club should be looking to build for the future by signing younger players who can develop and grow with the team.
Signing Braithwaite would be a short-term solution that does not align with the club’s long-term ambitions.
