Man City will accept £20m Liam Delap offer as Southampton swoop – sources

Southampton are stepping up their interest in £20million-valued Man City striker Liam Delap as they look to sign a new front man, sources have told Football Insider.

Delap, 21, spent last season on loan at Hull and he is unlikely to break into Pep Guardiola’s star-studded side in the 2024-25 campaign.

Man City could be willing to let the youngster leave permanently for the right offer with the club valuing him at around £20million.

Delap could become the latest City star to join the Saints, with Taylor Harwood-Bellis already joining Russell Martin’s side permanently this summer.

Gavin Bazunu, Samuel Edozie and Romeo Lavia are among the other stars to leave the Etihad Stadium for St Mary’s in recent windows.

Delap notched eight goals and two assists in 32 appearances for Hull last season, with 26 of those outings coming as part of the starting lineup.

The 21-year-old has also had loan spells in the Championship with Derby and Preston.

He has also scored twice in five appearances for England’s Under-21 side.

Delap, who is under contract at Man City until June 2026, is the son of former Southampton midfielder Rory.

The Saints achieved promotion back to the Premier League in the 2023-24 campaign and are searching for striking reinforcements amid uncertainty over the future of Che Adams, who is now a free agent.

Martin’s side have offered Adams a new deal but Football Insider revealed last month that Nottingham Forest and Wolves are also keen on the Scotland international.
